Strength Training
Run home over the bridges

With a flat tire on my bike, I have been running to and from the gym in the mornings. On the way home, we had extra time so we ran over Burrard Bridge, then back home over the Granville Bridge. My legs felt like lead because I focused on legs for my strength workout. I am sore today.

Friday run

Last Friday, I went for my "bridges" run. Basically I run down to False Creek from my place, along the seawall to the Cambie Bridge, up the stairs and over the bridge, along the seawall to the Burrard Street bridge, up those stairs and over, and then run back home. All told, it's probably about 40 minutes of running. According to Route Scout, the route is about 8km.

Joined a run clinic today, which starts next Tuesday. It's an "intermediate" clinic.

post-wedding plans

Here I am, post-wedding! I went back to the gym today after about 2.5 weeks of very little exercise and lots of eating. After my last post, I think I did one run and a 30km bike ride, and we did a little hike at Christina Lake. Otherwise, the week after the wedding was occupied with incredibly long hours of sleeping to catch up after the week of preparation insanity. My body still succumbed this last Sunday morning, however, and I woke up with my nose and eyes streaming so I ended up taking a sick day off of work on Monday to recuperate.

Today was the first day I felt well enough to go back to the gym, and it felt good to be back among the morning regulars again. I just did a strength routine, and we ran to and from the gym.

Oh yeah, I also got my first flat tire after owning my bike for six years, which brought my ride in the Okanagan to a screeching halt. I haven't had time to change the tire with all the wedding madness going on but I should be back on my bike again before too long. I also fell off my bike four days before the wedding, bruising my butt and thigh. Lucky I was wearing a sleeved shirt or my shoulder would also have been all bruised and scabby in my strapless wedding dress. The fall left me shaken and my mother was relieved that I got a flat so I wouldn't be able to ride in the days leading up to the wedding. Moral of the story, don't try to ride your bike while balancing your friend's heavier-than-it-looks baby car seat in one hand. Stupid stupid.

My shoulder felt really good after two weeks of doing almost nothing, but one day back at work and it hurts as if I never had time off. This is very frustrating.

Anyway, I'm going to work on new fitness goals for the coming months and will list them here next week.

Friday update

Wednesday, August 2: 60 mins stairmill, level 7
Thursday, August 3: Strength training day
Friday, August 5: 55 mins elliptical, reverse intervals

And, now, I am off and away for two weeks so posting will be sporadic (even more so if you can believe it could be possible), and I probably won't be doing much because it's going to be very busy. Yay summer!

after a shocking weekend

After a shocking weekend of excess and general girls behaving badly shenanigans (three days sans exercise, unless you count dancing with 22 year old boys and wandering around Whistler Village exercise), Monday was a tough day. It was also lovely to sleep in after eight Mondays of 6:30am boot camp. I am at the gym every morning by 6:30 but the difference with boot camp was that I didn't have the option of not going. Anyway, my workouts today and yesterday:

Monday, July 31: 50 mins run around False Creek. Sprinted up and down the Cambie Bridge stairs 3 times.

Tuesday August 1: Strength training workout, Day 2

After this week, I'll be off for a couple weeks, so most of my workouts will be runs and bike rides, and using rubber tubing for strength.
